While the credential officially identifies you as a pilgrim, the unofficial symbol is the scallop, which pilgrims wear on their backpack or clothing. Make sure you have both of them with you when going on the Way of Saint James.

The Official Slovak Credential
Your credential allows you to collect the stamps of the different places you go through. You will find them along the whole Camino in churches, tourist information centres, lodgings, restaurants, etc. In addition, by presenting it you can benefit from offers and discounts at some hostels and restaurants along the way.
The Slovak credential will also allow you to identify yourself in the Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela and obtain your “Compostela,” the official certificate that proves you have walked the Camino.
Although it is not mandatory to have a credential to go on the Way of Saint James, your collection of stamps in it is one of the most valuable memories you can take home.
The Slovak credential has been duly registered at the pilgrims’ office in Santiago de Compostela, so you can use it to walk the Way in Slovakia and throughout Europe. It has the same validity and acceptance as the credential of Spain or that of any other European country.

For centuries the scallop has been the unofficial symbol of pilgrims heading for the tomb of the Apostle James. Although originally pilgrims took a scallop with them on their way back home to prove that they had actually reached Santiago de Compostela in Spain, today it has become the symbol of pilgrims heading there, regardless of whether they arrive in Santiago or not.
In our shop you can buy a scallop with Slovakia’s coat of arms, which clearly represents the Slovak section of the Camino de Santiago. It comes with a cord you can use to hang it from your back-pack or an item of clothing.

Pilgrims’ testimonies
Recently we walked the Camino to Santiago. I would like to thank you for the information you gave us about the Camino and the accommodation possibilities. We are pleased to confirm that the Slo-vak credential is fully valid. All lodgings accommodated us and we also got our Compostelas without any problem.
